Indhira Udofia
Boston, MA

Indhira Udofia’s research in theology has led her to explore the experiences of women in the church who are black and queer, a term that refers to an identity other than straight or cisgender (or non-transgender). Her experiences within church spaces as a black queer woman have left her feeling “on the margins of the margin,” and she feels it’s important to constantly consider how sexuality, gender, and religion intersect.

“The ethics, rhetoric, and philosophies you create or prescribe to in seminary will have deep and abiding implications on your approach to addressing said issues in your ministry,” she said. “If you don’t begin to unpack and deal with your own ‘stuff,’ it will do more harm than good when you begin to journey with others.”
