Jeanette cares deeply about updating state and federal laws to protect LGBTQ people of all ages from discrimination. As the parent of a transgender child, she is keenly aware of the difficulties her daughter Jazz could face by not being protected by nondiscrimination laws. At home and in school, Jazz’s parents have gone to great lengths to ensure her safety and well-being, and have shared their story on TLC Network’s I am Jazz and in a best-selling picture book by the same name. For Jeanette, it’s all about fairness and treating people equally.
“This is a country where everyone is supposed to be treated equally – that’s promised in the Declaration of Independence and in the Constitution,” Jeannette said. “My daughter was created equally – I know that – but right now, transgender people like her aren’t treated equally.”
