Lindsey Muller is an active-duty soldier who is also a transgender woman, raised as a boy but now living as the woman she has long known herself to be. She says that growing up, before her transition, she was teased for being feminine and told to “be stronger.” Now, as an Apache helicopter pilot, she says she has redefined for herself what it means to be strong. Lindsey hopes that sharing her story will help others in her position and can provide inspiration to transgender people who may be considering military service, even in the face of an attempted ban by the Trump Administration to ban open military service for transgender people.
“I look forward to hearing other’s stories as much as I look forward to sharing my own, because I know that somewhere out there, my story just may prevent a child’s story from tragedy or heartache,” Lindsey said. “I know that somewhere out there a younger version of myself is struggling with their own self worth and validation. I want to tell that young boy or girl: ‘You are not alone.’”
