Lisa Berg Stanton is a Jewish woman living in Texas. A wife and mother, Lisa is a strong believer in her faith, and it is stories of people overcoming oppression and standing up for themselves that resonates most powerfully with her — the spirit of freedom of expression, living authentically, and bringing light where there is only darkness. Lisa feels this connection is especially prescient when it comes to people in the transgender community, who often face exclusion and discrimination.
“Too many transgender people have lived in fear of being their authentic selves, they face rejection not just from society but often from their own families and loved ones,” Lisa said. “The LGBT and Ally community must resist pressures to submit to societal or political pressures to conform. We must demand the right to be who we are, and to be proud of who we are.”
