Rabbi David Lipper
Davidson, NC

Rabbi David Lipper has been a lifelong ally for LGBTQ equality. While in rabbinic school in 1983, he found himself in a pastoral care class serving people living with HIV/AIDS. As he began to meet hospital patients and listen to their stories, he was moved by the firsthand accounts of discrimination patients shared. These stories compelled him to move his advocacy beyond the classroom. Rabbi Lipper knows that misinformation about HIV has led to discrimination – and that’s partly why he now works to dismantle the stereotypes and build awareness and support for people living with HIV, and for all LGBTQ people in his home state, North Carolina.

“As we wait for Congress to act, states like North Carolina should lead the charge by passing a comprehensive, statewide nondiscrimination bill that ensures protections for LGBTQ North Carolinians,” he said. “I’m ready and willing to raise my voice alongside LGBTQ people. … I will welcome you with open arms where other people would turn you away. I am your ally, and together we will build a world based on love that is stronger than hate.”
