For eight years, Rabbi Peter Berg has been serving as Senior Rabbi of the Temple in Atlanta, the largest Jewish congregation in Georgia, and Atlanta’s oldest. Even with that long history and impressive size, what really attracted Rabbi Berg to this particular congregation was its role as a major player in social justice movements of the past 150 years. Now, Rabbi Berg follows in their footsteps; a longtime activist, Rabbi Berg has been involved in a wide range of issues, including standing against legislation that would grant businesses and others a license to discriminate against LGBTQ people in Georgia and beyond.
“Our members, regardless of their political views, have always been very supportive of LGBTQ issues and inclusion,” Rabbi Berg said. “For our community, this isn’t a political issue. It’s just the right thing to do.”
