As a Presbyterian pastor, I have always been committed to speaking my conscience. When I came to know LGBTQ people and learned the discrimination they sometimes face, it was incomprehensible to me that no federal law exists to protect them. I believe dignity and respect are values that should never be absent in our laws.
For three years, I was a campus minister for UKirk Tallahassee at Florida State University. It was important for us to create a spiritual space that fostered a community of welcome and inclusion for all students who wanted to explore their faith together. What students found unique about UKirk that they struggled to find elsewhere was that we were an LGBTQ-inclusive ministry.
