In September 2016, Rolando and Yandy married after 6 years of dating. Both are successful in their careers and enjoy the simple pleasures of living in Florida. They were looking for a new home and found one that was a perfect fit. They went through the entire process, only needing final approval from the Homeowner’s Association. To their shock, they were denied immediately. Meanwhile, they kept incurring costs to extend loans they had taken out for their purchase. Eventually, they learned they were turned away just for being gay.
“Why was this happening?… We’re not in the 50s,” Rolando said. “We’re not the in the 60s. We didn’t think that being a gay married couple would really affect our application.”
