Ronnie King is a proud woman of faith and the mother of a transgender service member. Her daughter, Staff Sergeant First Class Patricia King, has faithfully served in the U.S. Army for almost twenty years and deployed three times.
When Patricia first came out as transgender, Ronnie had a difficult time adjusting. It was Ronnie’s faith in God and her love for her daughter that guided her through. Ronnie now advocates for all transgender Americans, including the 14,000 troops affected by the Trump administration’s discriminatory transgender military ban. When Patricia testified against the ban before Congress, Ronnie was standing beside her.
“Landing on a mountain in Afghanistan is an act of bravery. But being who you are is also an act of bravery, and it’s so important that we support these incredible people. Just like we as parents teach our children to walk, we need to teach ourselves to walk beside them on their journey.”
