The Clinchard Family includes Jude, a transgender girl, and her mother Jenna. Over the past three years the family has testified before the Colorado legislature in favor of legislation that would make it easier for transgender Coloradans to update the gender on their birth certificate so they can have one that truly reflects who they are. Jude testified for the first time in 2016, on her 10th birthday. Unfortunately, the bill has been blocked from passing in the Senate for the past four years, but it has not stopped Jude or her family from speaking out and fighting for a fair and just Colorado.
Jenna Clinchard said to the legislature: “She [Jude] doesn’t choose to be transgender. I admire her courage to be her true self. Passing this bill won’t hurt any of you or your children…I’m not asking you to support or love my transgender child, but merely to pass the bill to ease issues that arise in insurance, school documents and employment.”
